The challenge

Cold storage compressors run around the clock, so the daytime solar could only ever cover part of the load - and the shed roof alone was not large enough for 250 kW.

What we did

We split the array between the shed roof and 0.4 acres of unused adjacent land, using bifacial modules on the ground-mount section to pick up reflected ground albedo.

Project notes

Cold storage is a 24-hour load, so solar can never take the bill to zero. What it can do is shave the daytime portion - which at this facility was close to 55% of total consumption.

The bifacial ground-mount section is generating roughly 8% above the equivalent monofacial layout, which was enough to justify the slightly higher module cost.
